Corbett, a 6-foot-6 forward from Raleigh, averaged seven points and ten rebounds last weekend at the Virginia Wesleyan Cox Communications Tip-Off Classic. He led the Bishops to a I-1 record and runner-up finish. Corbett grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, while scoring four points, tallying two assists and one steal in a 73-70 win over Rutgers-Newark on Friday. In an 83-60 loss to host Virginia Wesleyan, Corbett contributed ten points and eight rebounds.

Hickson earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference on Monday. Singletary was named player of the week after tallying 24 points with eight assists to lead the Cavaliers past Arizona on the road Saturday night. Singletary averaged 23.5 points, eight assists and four rebounds in two. wins last week. Hickson was named league rookie of the week after averaging 26.5 points and 10 rebounds in his first two games.
He set a league record for most points in a freshman debut with 31. on 12-for-12 shooting against William Mary, then had 22 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks in a loss to New Orleans. ACROSS THE NATION Padres finalize $10 million deal with Maddux have fina)- ized a $10. million, one-year contract with Greg Maddux. Maddux, who turns 42 on April 14, agreed to terms of the deal two weeks earlier.
The right-hander has 347 wins, four Cy Young Awards and a World Series championship won in 1995 with the Atlanta Braves. Maddux's return as San Diego's No. 3 starter appeared inevitable, after he went 14-11 with a 4.14 ERA in his first season with the Padres, who fell one win short of their third straight playoff appearance. Maddux had a player option for $8.75 million. Had he pitched 200 innings he finished with 198 the option price would have increased to $10 million.
In addition, San Diego had a club option for $11 million. Maddux received his record 17th Gold Glove Award. Castillo agrees to $25 million deal with Mets NEW YORK (AP) Second baseman Luis Castillo decided to stay with the New York Mets, reaching a preliminary agreement Sunday night on a $25 million, fouryear contract. Castillo must pass a physical for the deal to be finalized, a person with knowledge of the talks said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the team had not made an announcement. The deal is subject to him passing a physical.
