Navigating health insurance can be challenging, especially for students. If you’re attending UC Berkeley and already have health insurance that meets the university’s requirements, you can waive your Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you understand the waiver process and ensure you meet all necessary deadlines.
Deadlines:
● Fall 2024 Regular Deadline- The waiver period is from May 1, 2024to July 15, 2024. Waivers must be received by July 15, 2024 to avoid a late fee of $75.
● Fall 2024 Late Deadline- All waivers received between July 16, 2024, and August 15, 2024are subject to alate feeof $75. No waiver applications will be accepted after the final August 15, 2024 deadline.
● Spring 2025 Deadline- The deadline to waive is January 1, 2025. The late deadline is January 15, 2025with a $75late fee.

Important Notes About Deadlines:
● A newwaiver application must be submitted for each Fall semester; approved waivers from previous semesters do not roll over.
● For Summer 2024 Special Program Graduate Students - If you have an approved Summer 2024 waiver, you are automatically waived for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters and do not need to apply for a Fall 2024 waiver. (Please report any insurance changes to the SHIP Office.)
● Failing to submit your waiver by the final deadline will result in automatic enrollment in SHIP, and you will be responsible for the associated UC, Berkeley health insurance cost.
Step-by-Step Waiver Process:

2. Check your email for your Digital Insurance Card
Once you enroll in the World Elite Plan, you should be able to find your digital insurance in a couple of minutes after applying.
3. Fill out the waiver Form
Using the information on your digital insurance card, fill out UC Berkeley’s health insurance waiver form. (Make sure to submit the waiver form before the Fall 2024 deadline i.e. 15th July, 2024).Be sure to provide all required details to avoid any issues.
4. Submit the Waiver Form

Submit the completed form before the regular or late deadline (latest by 15th August 2024, comes with a late fee of $75). After submission, you will receive a confirmation email. Keep this email for your records.
Kindly note that the waiver results will be sent immediately to the email address on file.
5. Confirmation and Verification
Waiver determination will be made immediately after submission. If your waiver is approved, you will not be charged for SHIP. If there are any issues, you will be notified to provide additional information or clarification.
6. UC Berkeley Health Insurance Card
If your waiver is approved, carry your existing health insurance card with you at all times.This card is essential for accessing medical services at the UC, Berkeley Student Health Center and other healthcare facilities.
