7:00 am

it is sunday, june 16th. it is going to be a warm day for parts of the bay area as we look outside, the sun shining over the golden gate bridge, a red flag warning is now in effect

7:01 am

for solano county, which no doubt will have fire crews on high alert. our cinthia pimentel will have more on that in just a moment, but first, thank you so much for starting your sunday morning with us. happy father's day to all the dads and father figures out there. i'm kira klapper. we'll have more on that red flag warning in a moment. but first we begin with developing news out of southern california, where a fire is burning in l.a. county, it's called the post fire. it has grown to more than 11,000 acres overnight. it ignited just before two yesterday afternoon along the grapevine in gorman. it's about 70 miles north of los angeles. firefighters have evacuated about 1200 people living nearby. crews are battling, as you can see, from the ground and the skies right now, there is zero containment and north of the bay area in butte county, evacuation orders have been downgraded to warnings for the june fire that's burning south of oroville. so far, flames have burned just more

7:02 am

than 1000 acres. it is 10% contained. so let's check back in here with cinthia pimentel this morning. already a busy start to the morning to the fire season. all of it. yeah, i feel like we started june and really these things got going. we start our forecast down into l.a. a lot of us of course have family members down there. so maybe give them a call. we go on and see the pink on our screen. they have a high wind warning. if you've driven down the grapevine, you know how tricky it can get. that is aiding in spreading the fire there, and the kind of darker color that you see on your screen there that's carrying the smoke into parts of where people live. so down into santa clarita, the pasadena mountains, that air quality alert is issued until later on this afternoon. so we'll continue to watch that situation there in l.a. county. but we have our own things to keep our eyes close to, a little bit closer to the bay area, just to the north of around the napa county mountains, there's lake berryessa. we go into lower lake and parts of vacaville included in our own red flag warning

7:03 am

until 8 p.m. tomorrow night. so low humidity levels, gusty winds. you felt them yesterday. we're going to continue to feel them today. they will be onshore at times, but really gusty around 30 to 40 miles an hour. the thing to watch here though is how those winds change direction overnight on into monday, bringing down the humidity levels coming north so out of the north really heightening our concerns. so we'll slow this down just a little bit more. coming up in my full forecast in about ten minutes. kyra, back to you. all right cynthia, thanks. we'll see you soon. well, as cynthia was just saying, and as we've been reporting, it's been a very active start to the fire season. we've seen a number of brush fires across the bay area within the past couple weeks. and that means as the summer officially begins on thursday, we'll likely see public safety power shut offs, which is when pg&e turns off power to a neighborhood that's under high fire or high wind risk to prevent an electric fire. pg&e spoke with us about how they determine min whether a power shut off is needed. and so

7:04 am

you would be looking for any sort of pattern where you have high fire risk and high wind risk. and so we're kind of in the season where we're starting to see high fire risk, and we're just waiting for the wind event or monitoring for the wind event . the power shutoffs typically happen during the fall. that's when brush and trees are at their driest. and this is all a great reminder to stay prepared. don't forget, you can get up to the minute updates sent straight to your phone on any breaking news or weather alerts sent right to you. for news and weather, download our nbc bay area news app. it is free and available for all smartphones. we have new details this morning about a deadly plane crash that happened a few days ago in the sierra. it claimed the lives of two people and we now know that one of those victims was from the bay area. the single engine plane took off from lodi wednesday afternoon, headed to south lake tahoe, but something went wrong mid-flight and the plane crashed near luther pass

7:05 am

in alpine county. sheriff's deputies found the bodies of two people in the wreckage. we have learned that 74 year-old raphael jones junior from san jose was piloting, piloting the plane 80 year-old. jeanette shriver, singer from lodi, was the passenger. the faa and the ntsb are investigating. a san francisco park now has a new name in honor of a beloved grandmother. the visitacion valley park now honors the late yaeko huang, who was attacked and found unconscious there back in 2019. she succumbed to her injuries one year later. our today in the bay's christie smith was at the unveiling. the tight knit neighborhood hopes this new chapter will bring healing and unity after tragedy in visitacion valley. people gathered at this park that now bears a new name. and we're very excited to unveil the new park name. it was previously called visitacion valley playground,

7:06 am

this is a it was a place of tragic loss. my grandmother huang was attacked here. susana yee's grandmother visited the park almost daily and was attacked there in 2019. she died a year later. out of the tragedy came an effort to re-envision the area. what we hope to bring us is, a infusion of good energy back to the park. and so hopefully folks can see that by by us reclaiming this space. we're actually making it even better for the next generation. it means abundant love. yee hopes the park will become a place where the community gathers events like this help to bring us together to many. hope the change will bring healing and unity. i think it does a lot, you know, for the healing, because once you start educating people about the tragedy, it could have been their grandmother, it could have been

7:07 am

their auntie. it could have been a cousin, you know? so it's a human life. so it does connect us all together. you know, a park is really just a plot of dirt with some grass and trees, but we make it meaningful by investing our time and energy. similar to everyone being here today, to take part in this celebration. so so it's, making her death and her life much more meaningful. kristie smith, nbc, bay area news. and we are continuing to follow the news of potential school closures and consolidations in san francisco, where school district leaders say they will discuss the topic later this month. it comes as the sf usd sees a decline in enrollment. the district says it has lost more than 4000 students since 2017, and it expects to lose an additional 4600 in the next eight years by 2032. on june 25th, the school board will

7:08 am

discuss the criteria it will use to decide whether to close or to merge schools. this process is still in the early stages. no changes will take effect until 2025. another mountain lion has been spotted along the peninsula. someone in millbrae saw the big cat in broad daylight around noon yesterday. you can see it on the map. it was near vallejo drive, right next to open space that runs along 280. but where there are homes and apartments, the sheriff's office says so far they have no reports of the animal interacting with people, but police want you to call 911. if you see a mountain lion. now to the east bay, where the owners of a mobile veterinary clinic are devastated and frustrated after their medical trailer full of equipment was stolen. today in the bay's alyssa goard spoke with the owners, who are now scrambling to figure out how they can continue to serve the san leandro community. we've been in business for 19 years for husband and wife jessica and robert cardillo. it's been a labor of love. their business,

7:09 am

cheap shots, offers low cost veterinary care in the east bay, much of it through a trailer packed with the supplies and medications they need. so if we open at 10 a.m. by 930, there's about 20 people in line waiting for our services. so there's a great need. but this week, their trailer disappeared. they say the trailer was parked here early wednesday morning, and in less than four minutes, they say someone slashed the lock and took off with it. the cardillo showed us where someone sawed through their lock. security camera videos appear to show that happening. at least two people can be seen getting out of an suv. they eventually hitch the trailer, then drive away. that's the part that hurt. the worst is actually seeing people do this to us and to the people of our community. they say there were around $500,000 worth of supplies inside the trailer. it just sucks that somebody would come and steal a trailer from a place that's just trying to do

7:10 am

great things for the community. san leandro police are asking for anyone with information on the trailer and what happened to it to call them. demand for cheap shots services is still high, so they're seeking donations to continue meeting the need in the community. it felt very violating to watch them drive off with with everything. we've worked for 20 years to build in san leandro. alyssa goard. today in the bay, it is just shy of ten. after the hour we have much more ahead on today in the bay. coming up, we take you live to washington, d.c. to talk to peter alexander for a preview of this week's meet the press. plus, stanford's own katie ledecky punching her fourth ticket to the olympics last night heading to paris to go for the

this coming on the heels of president biden's son, hunter, being found guilty on federal gun charges. please join me in welcoming nbc news chief white house correspondent peter alexander, our bay area native guest moderating meet the press this week. hi, peter. happy father's day. thanks for joining us this morning. thank you. you were able to speak with democratic congressman ro khanna , who, as our viewers likely know is a representative from the bay area. he represents portions of the south bay and the east bay. khanna is part of the biden reelection campaign. so was he able to talk about hunter biden's conviction and whether it has the potential to derail president biden's bid for reelection? well, we did ask him about that topic. and many others. in the course of our conversation, congressman khanna made the argument that this, especially on father's day, this incident, the conviction of hunter biden, should best demonstrate the father that joe biden is given hunter biden's addiction in the past. but i

7:14 am

think a lot of democrats do really fear not so much about the gun charges that he was convicted on. but another trial to take place this september in the waning weeks of this election that it could be a distraction, perhaps not for the candidate, joe biden, but for voters at home. obviously, hunter biden's name is not on the ballot this fall. it's joe biden versus donald trump. but in our conversation, we're also going to talk to the republican congressman, byron donalds of florida, whose name is on the short list of possible vp picks for donald trump in particular. i'm going to push him on donald trump asking the republican house speaker, mike johnson, to overturn the verdict in that manhattan case where he was convicted of 34 felony counts. why i ask, is it congress's role and why shouldn't the judicial process be allowed to play out his answer to that? coming up, we're also going to litigate the latest on the situation going on in israel right now. the fighting between israel and hamas, specifically in gaza. rokana has had his differences with the administration in the way this war has been handled.

7:15 am

he makes news in our conversation as it relates to prime minister netanyahu, who is scheduled to speak before a joint session of congress next month. congressman khanna saying he will not be there for that address. he's not going to show that's all ahead when we see you this morning on meet the press. a lot of headlines there, peter. we look forward to seeing you and we hope your girls celebrate you today. happy father's day and we hope you join peter for this morning's meet the press. as mentioned, he will be joined exclusive by florida representative byron donalds on donald trump's short list, apparently for vp. and as mentioned, california representative ro khanna. if you just stick right here with us for today in the bay, meet the press is on at 8 a.m. right after this newscast. and as always, coming up in about 30 minutes from now, we will talk to nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston for our weekly segment. we'll take a look at the supreme court's unanimous decision to uphold the use of mifepristone by pregnant women. miramar park. in other

news, in indianapolis, the us olympic swim trials started last night. the nine day long event launched with a bay area athlete and olympic legend qualifying for her fourth olympic games. mark barger takes us there. not that there was much doubt beforehand, but katie ledecky is officially going to paris. ledecky to the wall. the seven time olympic gold medalist won the women's 400 meter freestyle saturday on day one of the us olympic swim trials. i walked out of this tunnel tonight and just took a look around and just enjoyed the moment. we've come a long way and it's really great that you all came out to support us. it's been an amazing first night. that's in large part because of the semifinals of the women's 100 meter butterfly to the wall. she goes one record. gretchen walsh swam the fastest time ever by 3/10 of a second, the first time a world record has fallen at the us trials

7:17 am

since michael phelps in 2008. i'm still in shock and it doesn't feel real. i keep telling myself, i'm like, you just did that. walsh's record happened in front of a roaring crowd at lucas oil stadium, home to the nfl's indiana colts. but even with her new record, walsh still has to finish in the top two of sunday night's final in order to make her first olympic team. the crowd had even more to cheer about, with 19 year old erin shackell from nearby carmel, indiana, the son of a british olympic swimmer is now an olympian himself. he'll get there after winning the men's 400 meter freestyle. people in that heat inspired me to go faster and work as hard as i could, and now i'm swimming with the best of them going to paris, so it's unbelievable to be honest. just the first of nine nights of swim trials competition, mark barker, nbc news. the songwriters hall of fame officially has a new class

of inductees, and you will definitely recognize some of them by name. and the money annette new car to take you home and beat. you should see us dancing here. throwback to 2007. seriously. on friday, timbaland was officially inducted into the exclusive songwriter hall of fame. missy elliott, the first female rapper inducted five years ago, showed up to honor her buddy timbaland in last night's event. sizza earned the hal david starlight award an honor for young songwriters and arguably the highlight of the night. the long awaited reunion of r.e.m. they came together on stage after nearly 30 years apart to celebrate their new prestigious honor. and speaking of honors, this morning, we want to take a moment to congratulate our nbc bay area and telemundo 48 news teams last night. you see her right there? our investigative reporter candice

nguyen won an emmy. she and her producers sean myers, kevin nias and photographer michael horne won an emmy for their series 911 hanging on the line at shed light on critical issues within oakland's 911 system. and our sister station telemundo, is celebrating two emmy wins. the first was for overall newscast for their coverage following the tragic shooting in half moon bay. also, overall news excellence. congratulations to our family and all of the winners last night. i know there are colleagues, but they're really our family. yeah. time now to check in with cinthia pimentel on this father's day for a look at our microclimate forecast. everybody here is just an inspiration to work with. and they look so nice. congratulations bravo. what a great night for them out there. and now we're on to sunday. lots of music. good times. father's day. happy father's day to everybody out there. my gift to you this morning is some clear, beautiful skies over the bay

7:20 am

area. you can see the golden gate bridge there in the distance. san francisco, petaluma. good morning. nice and clear there and in through parts of walnut creek and into the south bay. just some stunning sunshine all across the bay area. so what's happening in our atmosphere? we are actually seeing the clear skies because the system to our north and kind of the battle that they're creating with our pressure systems up there, is keeping that cloud cover and the system to the pacific northwest away. another thing that it's doing, though, is it's tightening the pressure gradients, meaning that we are going to be ramping up those wind speeds, and we'll get to that in just a second. as far as our temperatures go today, i've been mentioning that it's nothing too exciting, no major heat. we'll do mid 80s for santa rosa, concord and in san jose we'll do 7860s and 70s along the water, with some cooler temperatures out there for half moon bay it is sunny, dry and windy, and as we go on into june , the middle of the year, we start to talk about fire season. we have our red flag warning up towards parts of the north bay just on the outskirts of the bay area, but it also includes vacaville and parts of solano county until 8:00 tomorrow

7:21 am

night. low humidity levels and some really gusty winds. now, i told you i would stop this a little bit for you so we can get a little bit of a closer look. at times the winds will be coming onshore, but the humidity levels out towards parts of our valleys and our hillsides. in the 20s and the teens we recover well overnight. that's typical. but then into monday afternoon, notice the shift in those winds coming off of the land from the north and some really critical humidity indices right there through parts of the north bay, parts of the east bay and into parts of morgan hill and gilroy. so we're going to continue to watch that as we go on into tomorrow. i know it's father's day, but we really got to be careful with mowing the lawn, doing the barbecues. so just take vigilance there. overall 7-day forecast temperatures not too crazy. we go on into the week watching that wind and into parts of the middle of the week. it starts to subside a little bit. but as we go on into summer officially starting on thursday, we start to go on on a gradual

7:22 am

warming trend there by the end of the week into next weekend, up into the upper 80s and some 90s. meantime, san francisco will also feel breezy along the coast today, turning gusty overnight, and we go into the really the coastline of the bay area, watching those wind speeds increase now into the workweek there ahead in the city, temperatures in the 60s. juneteenth a beautiful day there, but a little bit cooler as we notice just a slight dip in temperatures before we begin. thursday. longest day of the year. oh yeah, summer solstice there and we'll see a gradual warming trend in the city as well. friday into saturday looks like a beautiful forecast today. looks good for father's day. the wind we have to be wary. i know all the dads and father figures and everybody out there in the bay area watching. we'll keep a close eye. yeah, and anyone looking to get outside? yeah, it'll be good. it'll be good. sunshine all right, cynthia, thanks so much. it is 22 past the hour right now. there is much more ahead on today in the bay coming up. i wish there were better news for the giants. runners left in scoring position

places warming up vacaville 90 degrees and that's part and that's included in the red flag warning that we have in effect until 8:00 tomorrow night, lake and solano counties elevated fire danger there and also coming down into the bay area to our humidity levels are going to drop in the north bay and the east bay hills and parts of the southern santa clara valley. so i'll be back with all those details and how we can prepare. coming up in about ten minutes. kira. all right, cynthia, thanks. we'll see you soon. well, happening this morning, 930 at stanford. graduates will be celebrating at their commencement. it follows a chaotic few weeks on campus that included protesters occupying the school president's office are today in the bay's. kris sanchez has more on how the university is keeping track of who's allowed in, so that the focus can remain on the celebration. good morning to you, kira. really exciting times and lots of pomp and circ*mstance here at stanford. but if you are planning to attend the main commencement ceremony today, you will have to have a ticket. here are some of

7:32 am

the details. only eligible graduates are able to request tickets for friends and family and anyone over the age of 16 will have to show some form of id, and all items will be subject to search. now because of this protest, about a week ago, some students won't be able to walk the stage at all. 13 people were arrested after occupying the university president's office building ten and the quad were defaced with graffiti as well, and recently the university disbanded the pro-palestinian encampment after months on campus, the university said it was threatening community safety, though the students there said that that protest remained peaceful and was unrelated to what happened at the president's office. some students vowed to return to that encampment. we have not seen that just yet. the commencement tickets are available on the stanford website. be prepared to show id be prepared to show a ticket for anyone over the age of two, and be prepared to hear a speech by commencement speaker melinda french gates at stanford

kris sanchez today in the bay thanks, chris so much. a stanislaus county woman has been arrested in connection to a shooting on the peninsula. police say they arrested a 34 year old woman named brittany stewart. she's accused of shooting another woman near a gas station in san mateo on thursday, causing chaos. the victim was later found at a gas station south in san carlos. is a shelter in place order was issued for most of san mateo while officers searched for stewart. they eventually tracked her down at a nearby apartment. it's still not clear what led up to that shooting. we also have new details on a deadly shooting in san francisco's mission district. police say it happened near 16th and mission in broad daylight just after four yesterday. oh, pardon me yesterday morning, officers found a victim who had been shot several times. they were taken to the hospital where they died. so far, police haven't made any arrests. now to san leandro,

where police are searching for the people who stole a trailer full of medical equipment belonging to a veterinary clinic. cheap shots is a low cost veterinary clinic operating in san leandro, fremont and oakland. much of the time working from a mobile clinic through their trailer, they showed us this surveillance video from wednesday morning, which appears to show someone sawing the lock off their trailer. then at least two people get out of an suv, eventually hitching that trailer and driving off with it. cheap shots tells us there are around $500,000 worth of equipment inside that trailer that they've worked to acquire throughout the last 20 years. that's the part that hurt the worst is actually seeing people do this to us and to the people of our community. san leandro police tell us they are actively looking for the thieves in this case. anyone with information on that

southern california, where a fire is burning in l.a. county, it's called the post fire, and it has grown overnight to 11,000 acres. it started just before two yesterday afternoon along the grapevine in gorman. here is nbc's annette arriola from our sister station, knbc in l.a. reporter. hey there. good morning guys. let me step out of the way so you guys can see what we have out here. we're along pyramid lake road just west of the i-5, a few miles south of gorman. and this is where this fire has now spread to. you can see what crews were up against the fire burning out of control on the west side of interstate five. heavy flames there spreading across the hillsides. more than 250 crews from both la and ventura counties, as well as the angeles national forest working overnight to construct perimeter lines around this fire. they also used aircraft for water drops. now, officials

7:41 am

also have had to evacuate roughly 1200 people from a nearby campground as it flew over the area yesterday. this fire broke out just before 2 p.m. in the afternoon. it also damaged several vehicles at a nearby auto shop. now, again, right now, officials telling us that they do not know how this fire started. the cause is under investigation, but of course, the wind is making it extremely difficult to battle the flames. evacuation orders are in place for areas west of the i-5 between pyramid lake and gorman. this includes the hungry valley state recreational area. now, fire officials say they don't anticipate any further evacuations in the area, but they also want to warn people that things could change, given that, again, this fire has now burned 11,000 acres and at the moment it is 0% contained. that is the very latest. i'm annette arriola. we'll send it back to you. annette, thank you so much

7:42 am

for that. cinthia pimentel joining me now, you have been tracking that fire this morning. how is the weather for first responders this morning? because you said we are expecting more wind. does that they have happen for them to. yeah they have a high wind warning there. they're also looking at warmer temperatures than us. they're in some of the upper 80s and 90s there. and if you've driven down through the grapevine, you know just how difficult it can get. i really think i've driven by a fire in that same area like a decade ago. yeah, we're all familiar, you know, as we travel about the state, they've got the high wind to deal with the temperatures. and also, if you notice here on your screen an air quality alert. so the winds are taking that ugly smoke and traveling it through parts of santa clarita. so around the six flags area and into parts of the pasadena mountains as well. so we're going to keep an eye on this. if you have any family members down south, just make sure that they are okay. we have our own weather here to watch as

well. we have a red flag warning just on the outskirts of napa county, lake berryessa right there. vacaville is included parts of solano, and we focus on lower lake. so clear lake and out towards parts of the sacramento valley. we're talking about low humidity. our hillsides are dry. we are looking at the grasses potentially, you know, catching on flames and traveling with these really gusty winds at times. so hour by hour for you, we slow this down a little bit. the time stamp is up there. this is into the afternoon hour. father's day plans really gusty through parts of the north bay from novato, petaluma gap, all the way to the coastline in bodega bay. right now we can see the winds are coming out of the north northwest. that's okay because it brings in a little bit more moisture from the pacific. but look at this time stamp. now as we go on into the overnight hours early monday, we get some of those north winds and that dries out the fuels even more through parts of the napa county mountains, solano county and through parts of really the entire bay area. we have to remain on high alert. so creating that defensible space,

7:44 am

maybe even creating your go bags, you might have not seen or seen them since last season. it's time to make sure those things are fresh as well. we take it on into sunday afternoon for parts of the bay area 2030 mile an hour wind gusts. as we plan our sunday fun day around here and our temperatures are not going to be too warm. but those humidity levels are critical, low, and the fuels are dry, 60s and 70s bayshore, some 80 around our inland valleys. we go on into tomorrow with the height of this wind event here, the north wind and the fire danger, we see some very warm temperatures. solano county, santa rosa and through parts of the livermore altamont pass area . we have to continue to watch that as well. tuesday will become a little bit more breezy at times, but still remaining under some warm temperatures there, and we get just a little bit more of a recovery going on into wednesday. wednesday slightly cooler, not as hot. we do mid 60s in the city to some low 70s bayshore it is still remaining to. we remain vigilant in parts of lake county and over

7:45 am

on into solano county and into parts of the south bay as well. so we do have that gorgeous sunshine. i know we want to go out. go on. you know, celebrate father's day, go on camping trips. but we have to make sure that we are taking care of the land and each other that midweek. cool down there on wednesday, but into summer, officially starting on thursday. longest day of the year. we start to gradually warm things up as we go on into our valleys. there san francisco windy out by the coast for father's day. so if you're taking dad, grandpa or any other figure, we'll watch the winds there too. all right, cynthia, thanks so much. it is just aut 745. webo

court unanimously upheld the use of mifepristone by pregnant women under current fda guidelines. that decision thwarted those who wanted tighter restrictions for the abortion drug, but it was hailed by pro-choice advocates. nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston joins us now. hi, larry, as always, good to see you. i want to ask you if you think this decision signals movement by the justices to a more moderate position on the abortion issue. eshoo well, good morning, karen. of course. happy father's day to all those fathers out there. it's a pretty good day for all of us. look, when we're talking about the supreme court and how they react to this issue, if you think the court's becoming more moderate, this is probably not the case. to think about. why do we say that? because the court dodged the question altogether. why did they dodge the question? because the people who sued doctors, okay, had no standing now, no standing means they had never

7:50 am

been harmed by this drug. there was nothing nothing to cause them any problem. therefore, the court said, we can't consider this issue. so they didn't talk about mifepristone. they didn't talk about the fda. they didn't talk about any of these things. and for that reason, even though this drug is used by 63% of all women who go through abortions, for that reason, this case could very well come up again. again with somebody or from somebody who does have standing. it sounds technical, but the fact is, at the end of the day, the court dodged the case. so then am i right to say this case potentially has more implications than just on that abortion issue? yes. and that's the thing that so many of us don't realize until we get into all those weeds that have to do with supreme court issues. look, at issue here really was much more than mifepristone. at issue was whether the supreme court could delve into what the fda does now, the fda, the federal

7:51 am

drug administration, of course, is the most prestigious, knowledgeable scientific organization in this country that deals with all kinds of medical issues, big guys with lots of information in their heads are the guys who run this thing, specialists. and what the supreme court was considering was telling the fda how it should do its business. and of course, if the supreme court starts to tell the fda about mifepristone, what else would it tell them the fda about? that was the most important issue here altogether, kira much more than mifepristone, which was important in itself. what the supreme court might have done with the fda. and again, we don't know the jury's out. but for now, this this issue has been dodged. and ever since roe was overturned, this has been a hot button issue in the us once again. so do you think this decision or non-decision means that the abortion issue will remain an issue for the supreme court and all likelihood, yes. and sooner than we think. look

7:52 am

next year, of course we could. we could very well have a woman who has been harmed, who claims she's been harmed by the drug come, go bring a case before the supreme court, in which case it probably would decide it one way or the other. but more important than that, cure, we have another case on the court's docket that they're likely to decide later this month. it's called idaho versus the united states. what is that all about? well, there's the state of idaho passed a very, very restricted law which denies a woman who has a baby in late term abortion, you might say a fetus, a late term from having any kind of attention whatsoever, unless her life is threatened. in other words, if the woman might suffer problems in getting pregnant in the future and therefore wants to have the fetus aborted, doesn't matter. only if she could face death very, very tight. that case is running right now, and the supreme court has to decide

7:53 am

it one way or the other unless it punts it, and i don't think they will. as to whether the idaho law stands, and if it does, it will be the strictest by far abortion law in the country. that's what we're waiting on right now, kyra. something much more important in terms of what happens to a woman's right to reproductive freedom in the days, months and years ahead. watch that case and we will watch it. idaho versus united states. okay, larry, as always, thanks for your input today and happy father's day. father's day. thank you karen. take care. and obviously i spoke to larry yesterday so he could enjoy his father's day today. up next, a quick look at the top stories we're following. and we
